Ingredients

  • 14 oz firm tofu pressed and cubed
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce for marinade
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp chili paste or chili powder adjust to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil for roasting

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

Method

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut it into evenly sized cubes.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, minced garlic, and chili paste until well combined.
  3. Add the tofu cubes to the marinade, tossing gently to coat each piece evenly. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  4. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  5. Spread the marinated tofu cubes evenly on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they’re spaced apart for even roasting.
  6. Drizzle the tofu with vegetable oil, tossing gently to coat all sides and promote crispiness.
  7. Place the baking sheet in the oven and roast for 25-30 minutes, flipping the tofu halfway through, until edges are golden brown and slightly charred.
  8. Remove the tofu from the oven and let it cool slightly—notice the crispy, charred edges and fragrant smoky aroma.
  9. Serve immediately over rice, quinoa, or alongside your favorite vegetables, topped with a squeeze of lime or a drizzle of sauce if desired.
